Dear Parents, Guardians and Family Members:

On the behalf of the Paramount PTA, I would like to welcome everyone to the Paramount Elementary School!  Your PTA Officers and Committee chairs have all been working and looking forward to a great 2009-2010 school year.  We are planning many fun and educational activities for our children and families in conjunction with the school teachers and staff.

We are grateful here at Paramount to enjoy an incredible amount of involvement and support from our families to enable the success of our school and our PTA.  We ask that you continue to participate in your child(ren)’s education by joining the PTA and volunteering in school events and initiatives this year.  We need everyone to be involved and volunteer whenever possible!

Our PTA meetings on the 4th Monday of the month are open to everyone to allow the opportunity to share ideas and concerns and work with others who see the value in building a better future for our children by taking an active role in their school.  In addition, we will have a general PTA meeting on the 2nd Thursday of every other month, which will include a program.  Enclosed is a complimentary magnet which provides the dates and times listed.  We look forward to seeing you there! Remember, together we will make this a terrific year for everyone!

We will be starting off the new school year with a PTA Meeting on Monday, August 31st at 6:30pm to decide on activities for the year, please come and voice your ideas.  Our first general PTA Meeting is on Thursday, September 10th at 6:30pm in conjunction with Math Night.  We will discuss the PTA budget for the year and the teachers are planning some great activities to stimulate math learning.  On Wednesday, September 30th, we will hold our 11th Annual Panther Pride Walkathon.  I’m proud to say that this has been one of the most exciting fundraiser events held at Paramount. So please watch for a colored flyer and help support our kids.

If you have not yet joined the PTA or you are interested in volunteering, please sign up online at www.paramountpta.org or complete the enclosed form.   To be included in the Family Directory, please do so by Friday September 4th.  The information contained within the directory is from only the completed forms received as the PTA does not receive any student information from the school system.

I am looking forward to working with everyone to help 2009-2010 be a great year at Paramount.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at my telephone number or e-mail address below.

Sincerely,

Dear Paramount Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how excited I am about working with you as the new principal at Paramount Elementary!  I wanted to share some background information so you can get to know me a little better.  I have taught at various schools in Washington County since 1991.  I have teaching experience in both the primary and intermediate grades, was a Student Achievement Specialist, and an Assistant Principal prior to coming to Paramount.  I would like to extend a warm welcome to a few other staff members who will be joining the Paramount team:  Ms. Kelly-Jo Kibler- grade 3, Mrs. Renee Raible- library/media, Mrs. Leslie Sullivan—music, Mr. Dennis Talbert- custodian, and Ms. Jennifer Zimmerman- teacher in the Autism program.

I believe in working together collaboratively in order to help your child grow academically, socially, and emotionally.  Helen Keller wrote, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”  Please consider joining the PTA, volunteering in the school, and contacting me if you ever have questions or concerns.  You can reach me by phone at 301-766-8293 or by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. In order to encourage summer reading I am enclosing a passport for your child to “Set Sail For A Successful Year”.  After reading books of his/her choice (or having a book read to him/her), please complete the passport and send it in with your child the first week of school.  I will confer with your child over lunch to help me get to know him/her as a reader.  The stage area will be transformed into a galley to make sure everyone is “ship shape” and ready for a great year.  Each child will then get to shop for a book while “on board”.  I think enthusiasm is the best way to motivate students.   I am excited about learning, and I can’t wait to share that with your child.

I look forward to meeting all of you on our Back To School Nights.  There has been a change of dates/times from what was sent home in Report Cards.  The new dates/times are:

August 13, 2009

August 17, 2009

5:00- Grade 5

5:00- Grade 2

6:00- Grade 4

6:00- Kindergarten

7:00- Grade 3

7:00- Grade 1

I know with the support of staff, parents, and the community we will have a fantastic year.  You are a valued member of your child’s educational team.  Have a wonderful summer~  see you soon!

         Sincerely,

         Erin M. Wolford

         Principal
